AI for Impact: Call for non-profits

AI Sweden, with funding from Google.org, is running the AI for Impact project, which aims to strengthen Swedish social entrepreneurs from underserved communities, social impact companies, and non-profit organizations working for social good. During the project, several initiatives will be carried out to raise awareness of how AI can be used for social good and to develop examples of use cases. One of these initiatives is a summer talent program where organizations receive help to implement AI from students in the field.

About the talent program

The talent program within 'AI for Impact' took place from June to August 2024. It aimed to support social entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations in their work using AI.

When applying to the program, organizations proposed one or more AI-related projects they wanted to implement. The organizations accepted into the program received help from a team of talents during the summer to carry out the proposed projects. The talents included machine learning and data science students selected by AI Sweden for their expertise, independence, and drive.

Five organizations had the unique opportunity to participate in the project. The selection was based on the project's potential positive impact, feasibility, and readiness for AI. Each organization was matched with a team of three AI talents.

Note: The first cohort of this talent program ended in August 2024

The overall goal is to implement concrete use cases for each organization.

Please note that the application deadline was April 17, 2024.

Who could apply?

You could have applied if you were a Swedish social entrepreneur, social impact company, or non-profit organization working for social benefit.

  • The projects can focus on different kinds of AI technology, such as generative or predictive AI. Applicants can suggest several projects
  • This program is an ideal choice if your organization aims to enhance its skills and capabilities in utilizing artificial intelligence for a positive cause
  • Having an established IT department and access to available data is viewed as an advantage but not a requirement

Expectations and application process

While the program is free of charge thanks to Google.org, we expect applying organizations to submit achievable project suggestions and provide some internal stakeholder support.

  • The application must pass Google's AI Principles review, conducted by Google AI ethicists and experts, which is part of our selection process
  • Clearly articulate the business problem or opportunity for which you wish to apply AI
  • Ensure that the project is somewhat achievable within the 10-12 week timeframe

We are open to discussing and ideating around AI use cases together, refining the project scope for optimal results. Identify internal stakeholder(s) who will provide essential information, and internal guidance, and potentially engage in project management.
