Accelerating applied AI in Sweden

Swedish municipalities see great opportunities with AI but struggle with how to achieve value creation in practice. A new interview study conducted by AI Sweden in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg shows that the success of municipalities' AI usage is determined by leadership and collaboration.

What happens when you invite a dozen experts from different parts of Sweden’s AI ecosystem and ask them to create the agenda themselves? At AI Sweden, we tested the "Unconference" concept, where a blank schedule served as the starting point. The result was an afternoon filled with energy and a strong desire to share and learn together.

The availability of large, open language models, along with the expertise required to develop, maintain, and utilize them, is of great importance for the sovereignty of Sweden and Europe.

The accelerating use of large language models is unlocking enormous value for organizations. But to fully realize this potential, a critical bottleneck must be addressed: Sustainable data management. “This challenge, spanning legal, ethical, and practical dimensions, requires a new level of leadership and competence to ensure that AI systems are safe, transparent, and contextually relevant,” says Danila Petrelli, senior data lead in AI Sweden’s NLU team.
