Information-driven healthcare

In 2019, the Information-driven healthcare (IDV) innovation initiative was launched as one of five milieus funded by Vinnova's major program for health-related, known as Vision-driven Health. The initiative's aim was to deliver more information-driven, personalized, and scalable healthcare. After five years of intensive work, the project has now concluded.

Collaboration – a key factor

The work in Information-driven healthcare was launched by AI Sweden, Region Halland, Halmstad University, and Karolinska University Hospital

Over time, Region Örebro County, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Örebro University, Region Västmanland, and Region Västerbotten also joined the core team.

Other regions have contributed through networks such as the Regional Reference Group.

Although we have previously focused on information-driven healthcare in our research, the start-up of the innovation milieu gave us a real boost through increased collaboration and networking with regions and companies in Sweden.

Our Achievements: A launchpad for what's next

Key outcomes include the Handbook for Information-Driven Care and AI, recently released in its second edition; several new educational initiatives and implementation support from Halmstad University; and a mapping of AI-related initiatives across the different regions.

On a more technical level, IDV has also developed solutions for sharing data between regions in ways that uphold patient confidentiality. This includes, for example, the LeakPro project, which followed a regulatory sandbox with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection.

For valuable cross-border knowledge exchange, Swedish regions are also participating in projects with Canada’s Unity Health Toronto.

IDV has been one of our largest projects to date, bringing together all of Sweden’s regions. Together, we have generated many valuable and important results.

A visual overview of AI initiatives in healthcare in Sweden's regions. The aim is to spread knowledge, foster collaboration and share experiences. Explore the map to discover how AI is contributing to the future of healthcare.

The results from the mapping of AI-related healthcare projects across Sweden's regions are compiled in the report: Vårdkartan – En kartläggning av svenska regioners AI-initiativ inom vårdsektorn (available in Swedish).

How can I engage?

AI Sweden is now continuing its work on AI application in Swedish healthcare, building on the knowledge and momentum from IDV. Two projects are already underway. One involves the National Board of Health and Welfare and Region Örebro County; and the other brings together Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Region Västmanland, Innovation Skåne, Region Skåne, and the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR).

Join the AI network for healthcare, which brings together relevant stakeholders—regions, municipalities, private care providers, and government agencies—to promote collaboration and create meaningful relationships.
