At the core of our mission is a firm conviction that artificial intelligence (AI) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the delivery of outstanding health services to the people of Sweden. Through the Information-driven Healthcare initiative, now concluded, we have supported Swedish healthcare organizations in adopting AI. The aim has been to offer more information-driven, personalized, and scalable healthcare. Furthermore, the collaboration between Unity Health Toronto and AI Sweden promises to bring significant Canadian insights to the Swedish healthcare system.
What are we meeting ahead?
Medical breakthroughs enable a larger proportion of the population to live longer and healthier lives. But this demographic shift also means that the number of patients with chronic diseases is growing and therefore increasing the demand for healthcare. Meanwhile, we see an upcoming shortage of staff. This creates a challenge that needs to be addressed.

How AI help to improve healthcare in Sweden
There is a lot of exciting research and implementation happening across the country.
Vårdkartan
The Healthcare Map, Vårdkartan, provides a visual overview of AI initiatives in healthcare in Sweden's regions. The aim is to spread knowledge, foster collaboration and share experiences. Explore the map to discover how AI is contributing to the future of healthcare.
The mapping was carried out by AI Sweden, in collaboration with Halmstad University, and the design and development of Vårdkartan was done by Datastory, on behalf of AI Sweden.
During Almedalen 2025, AI Sweden presented the results and recommendations from the national mapping initiative Vårdkartan. What do the patterns reveal? Where is the potential? In this panel discussion, decision-makers, experts, and regional representatives come together to discuss the way forward (in Swedish).

A handbook for information-driven healthcare and AI
Are you working within healthcare and wondering how you can best use AI, and start working more data-driven to initiate the change towards information-driven and personalized healthcare? AI Sweden, together with representatives from Region Halland and Karolinska University Hospital, are the editors of the new edition, which is published by Studentlitteratur. (In Swedish only)
Information-driven healthcare is to conduct and develop care as fact-based and patient-centered as possible by systematically utilizing, with the support of simple and advanced tools, all the data that exists – in one's operations and across organizational and subject boundaries – for increased effect of healthcare efforts both as a system and in the individual patient meeting.
