Tranzero Energy - Industrial electricity collaboration

Tranzero Energy is addressing challenges like increased demand, a lack of coordination, and the need for innovative solutions to achieve a sustainable energy transition. The project’s first use case aims to secure access to fossil-free electricity for an industrial cluster in Hisingen, Gothenburg.

Tranzero Energy is a strategic research and collaboration initiative that aims to visualize and address the current and future needs of electricity and power in business and industry. Using the Hisingen industrial cluster as a case study, the project will develop solutions that are effective, competitive, business-oriented and forward-looking.

Challenges

The ongoing transition in the industrial sector towards a fossil-free society is one of the driving forces behind the increase in electricity demand – a development that is crucial to building a sustainable society. This shift, together with the electrification of the transport sector, is creating demand that risks exceeding available capacity, which in turn could slow down the necessary energy transition. There is a great need for digitalization and increased collaboration between industrial, social actors and energy companies to identify and implement solutions.

Project purpose

The project will map the electricity demand, identify gaps in supply and propose solutions to balance the energy and power situation. Through collaboration and knowledge sharing, the project will create a common understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition.
Tranzero Energy builds on previous phases of the Tranzero Initiative and involves a wide range of actors, including industry, academia and social actors.

Expected outcomes

  • Increased knowledge and understanding of electricity demand and supply.
  • Concrete solutions to balance the energy and power situation.
  • Increased cooperation between actors in industry, transport and energy.
  • Recommendations to promote a sustainable energy transition.
