AI Change Leaders
In this project AI Sweden and Almi collaborated to build AI expertise among a selected group of Almi employees.
The program strengthened Almi's internal AI capabilities and their knowledge of how companies can create sustainable business value with AI.
Introduction
The AI Change Leader Program was built on five tailored modules covering a wide range of topics, including systematic AI implementation, data, use-case development, and responsible AI. Between modules, participants engaged in self-study and practical exercises at their respective offices. Participants also had the opportunity to follow the AI Accelerator for Scaleups, which ran in parallel, giving them practical insights into how companies work with AI projects.
Participants were certified in two key tools designed to support companies on their AI journey:
- AI Readiness Assessment: An analysis that helps organizations understand their prerequisites for success with AI and identify the steps needed to increase their AI maturity.
- AI Opportunity Mapping Workshop: A workshop format designed to systematically map, evaluate, and prioritize concrete opportunities with AI and data.
The Challenge
The program deepened and strengthened Almi’s understanding of AI across the organization. Ten business advisors and investment managers, handpicked from all parts of Sweden, were trained as AI Change Leaders. Their advanced expertise enabled Almi to work more efficiently internally while also providing sharper support to SMEs and startups externally. The Change Leaders also served as a key resource for knowledge sharing and collaboration on AI throughout the organization.
In addition to the specialist program, all Almi employees were offered a broad AI training – AI for Almi.
Results
The goal was to deepen the AI expertise of ten selected Almi employees. The group contributed experiences and perspectives to the organization’s overall AI journey while taking a leading role in AI advisory services within their regional operations. The program promoted collaboration across the organization and enabled the sharing of experiences and insights.
As part of the program, the Change Leaders also followed the Almi-funded AI Accelerator for Scaleups, which ran in parallel. By observing the companies participating in that program, they gained valuable insights into the practical questions and challenges that arise when growth companies build and implement AI.
Taken as a whole, the Change Leaders project strengthened both Almi’s own capabilities and, ultimately, the competitiveness of Swedish companies by accelerating the responsible use of AI in small and medium-sized enterprises.
This project was funded by Almi and led and co-created with AI Sweden.
Project period: February - October 2025
