The recruitment of two international AI experts strengthens AI Sweden's capabilities.
"I'm delighted to welcome both Dr. Robert (Bobby) Bridges and Mauricio Muñoz to AI Sweden. They bring years of international AI experience that will accelerate our partner projects," says Mats Nordlund, Director of AI Labs at AI Sweden.
Mauricio Muñoz will be the keynote speaker at a partner-exclusive event on October 1.
The new experts will immediately strengthen AI Sweden's efforts in security and automotive applications while building the strategic and technical foundation for the future. Bobby Bridges will play a central role in this work. With a background at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, run by the US Department of Energy, Bobby is a mathematician by training and has worked on differentially private machine learning, health care applications of AI, automotive CAN reverse engineering, anomaly detection algorithms, and operations research for enterprise network security operations.
Mauricio Muñoz joins AI Sweden from the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence in Germany, where he held a Lead Research Engineer position in the Rich and Explainable Deep Learning group. His career has been marked by significant contributions to AI research and development across various industries, including roles at MIT, Jaguar Land Rover, and the America’s Cup, where he applied machine learning techniques to enhance performance in nautical sports.
Since its inception, AI Sweden has been deeply involved with the Swedish automotive industry, and together with its partners conceptualized and completed multiple joint efforts. For instance, the Edge Learning Consortium (2021-2024) has made considerable strides accelerating partners with shared interests to build new knowledge, methods, and tools.
“We are now leveraging the infrastructure, know-how, and capacity from this consortium to add a focus on AI security as an important technology aspect for all our partners independent on what vertical they operate in,” says Mats Nordlund. He continues:
“But there are also sector-specific needs. As AI Sweden’s efforts continue to accelerate, we work closely with our partners to make strategic decisions on future directions. What collaborations are needed? What are top development priorities? What are the big and small bets for industry in this age of AI? On October 1, we will host a partner-exclusive event exploring the strategic directions and opportunities for AI in the automotive industry.”
