The Swedish Government's AI Commission, chaired by Carl-Henric Svanberg, submitted its final report today. Martin Svensson, Managing Director of AI Sweden and commission member, comments:
"Presenting the final report ahead of schedule emphasizes one of the key messages: Sweden must take urgent action."
The Commission has conducted extensive work, identifying numerous proposals crucial for strengthening Sweden's AI capabilities. The proposals for enhancing computing power, data resources, and competence point in the right direction.
"While this marks an important first step, more work lies ahead, particularly in building Sweden's AI capacity," says Martin Svensson. "It's essential to recognize that Sweden needs to make substantial investments across multiple sectors to develop and secure critical assets and capabilities. Leadership, governance, and collaborative abilities are especially crucial in this context."
One of the major risks highlighted by the Commission is that Sweden will remain passive and reactive to rapid AI developments.
"The report must now be turned into proactive action, and we should view this investigation as an important stepping stone for Sweden," says Martin Svensson. "AI Sweden’s work together with our partners will continue as usual, and we welcome additional investments and new components in the ecosystem to accelerate AI adoption in Sweden."
