AI Sweden will lead a comprehensive training initiative to strengthen the AI skills of 13,000 workers in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The project, which is part of the Google.org AI Opportunity Fund, will equip professional groups highly exposed to AI with the knowledge required to navigate a rapidly changing working life.
The initiative is primarily aimed at workers in sectors where the need for support is greatest. By offering a tailored training program in local languages, the project will bridge the skills gap and ensure that AI becomes an enabler of increased productivity and innovation.
AI Sweden is primarily responsible for the Northern European part of the program and will be in charge of developing the various components of the training initiative and coordinating the work among partners in the participating countries.

Ensuring the right skills is one of the most important building blocks for creating value with AI. There is currently a huge demand in the labor market for continuing education, and this initiative is an important step in responding to that.

We are proud of the trust placed in us by Google.org to lead this initiative in Northern Europe to ensure that workers, both in Sweden and in our neighboring countries, get the right knowledge to fully utilize the opportunities of AI in the workplace.

International labor market research consistently shows that technological development generally changes work tasks first, rather than overall employment. According to the Labor Market AI Council – an initiative by AI Sweden in collaboration with trade unions, employers, and transition organizations – the exposure to AI in the Swedish labor market is high, especially in service- and knowledge-intensive professions. But the report is clear: it is not the technology itself that determines the future, but rather how we choose to use it through leadership and skills development.

For the potential of AI to be realized broadly, structures are required that make the transition accessible and scalable. Through this initiative, we are building skills closely linked to the labor market, which is the key to ensuring that new knowledge is quickly converted into value for both the individual and society.

Rachael Bleakley, Program Lead at Google.org, adds:
“AI is a generational shift that holds immense potential to transform our economies, but that potential can only be realized if everyone has the tools and training to participate in it. At Google.org, we believe that upskilling isn’t just about technical proficiency—it’s about ensuring the workforce of today is empowered to lead the workforce of tomorrow. We're excited to support AI Sweden in working with local communities and providing workers with accessible, hands-on AI training, bridging the opportunity gap and ensure that the benefits of innovation are shared by all.”
