AI Sweden's national testbed is getting a major boost with two significant additions. First, its technical infrastructure is being supplemented with NetApp's StorageGRID data storage system. The donation is made possible through a collaboration between Fortnox, NetApp, and Proact. Second, Intel is contributing two Intel Gaudi 2 systems. This investment will enable more cutting-edge projects and deepen the collaboration among AI Sweden's over 160 partners in business, the public sector, and academia.
"We are convinced that AI will change the business landscape for the better. Through our donation, we want to actively contribute to AI Sweden's testbed and give the Swedish ecosystem the tools it needs to grow and innovate with AI," says Peter Afzelius, Head of IT & Operations at Fortnox.
The combined value of the investment amounts to approximately 6 million Swedish kronor, providing a significant capacity increase for AI Sweden's technical infrastructure.
Niclas Fock, Senior Advisor at AI Sweden, highlights the importance of investing together to collectively benefit from the technology.

This is a brilliant example of how collaboration can accelerate AI development in Sweden. The generous donations from Intel and Fortnox, along with the expertise from NetApp and Proact, give us even better conditions to be a catalyst for organizations that want to create sustainable value with AI and to continue driving the development of artificial intelligence in Sweden.

This view is shared by Anders Huge at Intel, who is contributing two Gaudi 2 systems, each with eight Gaudi 2 accelerators.
"This investment underscores Intel's commitment to driving AI innovation in the Nordics. We are proud to contribute our computing power to AI Sweden's testbed, which will enable more projects and strengthen Sweden's position in AI development," says Anders Huge, Nordic Public Sector and Innovation Center Lead at Intel.
AI Sweden's technical infrastructure hosts many projects led by the organization. These include the project Data-Driven Organizations – Best Practices for AI Implementation in Sweden and Next Generation Infrastructure, where an AI Sweden-led consortium is developing the next-generation infrastructure for training, distributing, and iteratively improving foundational models.
The national center Digital Forensics Sweden, which investigates threats to public and private security through technology-based crime-fighting in collaboration with the Swedish Police Authority, also uses the infrastructure.
The combination of increased storage capacity and new computing power from Intel enables the fine-tuning of the most data-intensive AI applications and establishes a secure and powerful infrastructure. This is especially important in the collaboration with Digital Forensics Sweden, where data integrity and security are of the utmost importance.

This not only secures data integrity but also establishes a robust, flexible, and scalable world-class infrastructure. It will be a crucial building block for future data-driven innovations and AI projects in Sweden. With the right technical conditions, we can not only strengthen research and industry but also help Sweden take a leading position in responsible and sustainable AI development.

"Contributing to AI Sweden's testbed is an investment in Sweden's future. NetApp wants to help facilitate and accelerate the adoption of AI for Swedish organizations with the help of world-class Swedish development and technology. Broadening relationships and introducing new expertise into the ecosystem across new areas between manufacturers is also becoming increasingly important," says Martin Wallin, Sweden CEO at NetApp.
The new infrastructure became available in August 2025.
