MAQS Advokatbyrå – new partner of AI Innovation of Sweden!

AI Innovation of Sweden is expanding through more partners and we are now welcoming the law firm MAQS Advokatbyrå to our network. MAQS joined us in April and is already up and running and actively collaborating with us. “Becoming a partner of AI Innovation of Sweden means new possibilities for us to stay updated on the latest developments, keeping an ear to the ground to identify trends at an early stage within our business”, says Anton Olsson, lawyer and partner at MAQS.

At the moment, the legal structure for the Data Factory at AI Innovation of Sweden is being built, with a focus on the necessary agreements and policies enabling partners to share datasets and models within the AI projects. We are therefore creating a group of legal experts and a focus group for law regarding, for example, data sharing, GDPR and intellectual property law related to AI.

Sharing knowledge and experience on legal issues, gained from projects and collaborations, will also get great attention moving forward. This will elevate the general knowledge on how to handle data sharing in a compliant way. The connection between legal and technical issues is vital for creating common opportunities to run AI projects.

“Law is an aspect that must be taken into consideration in relation to most of the issues that come up to discussion when we deal with AI. Integrity and the GDPR is one important aspect, but there are several more. The partnership with AI Innovation of Sweden is the perfect way for us to take part in the conversation. It will enable us to identify and handle issues at an early stage and support the stakeholders. You have to test ideas on the legal framework continuously and our experience is that today we join projects at an earlier stage than we did 5-10 years ago, which is a very positive development”, says Linn Samuelsson, lawyer and partner at MAQS.

”What we do today, we have to live with for many years. So if we miss an aspect now, there might be limitations later on on how to use for example a dataset. We want to embrace technology instead of being afraid of it”, adds her colleague Anton Olsson.

Outlooks

MAQS will be one of the partners in the Data Factory group of Legal Experts. They will work on trying to establish legal guidelines where there are no precedents. They will for example look into the difficult legal issues relating to data sharing and algorithms.

“Having MAQS join us as a partner is fantastic. We are now in the process of defining some very interesting legal issues regarding data sharing, for example in relation to GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) so the timing for MAQS to join couldn’t be better”, says Ebba Josefson Lindqvist, Project manager of AI Innovation of Sweden ́s Data Factory.

We look forward to working with MAQS on both the long term legal questions as well as short term and foresee that MAQS’s assistance will bring great help in making the Data Factory an efficient testbed for partners in their AI projects. We have exciting times ahead of us as we are now preparing the next level of our Data Factory.
