Kommunportalen: A new platform for collaboration and strategic AI development

Wednesday, November 27, 2024

AI Sweden, in collaboration with the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKR), has launched Kommunportalen on the My AI platform — a new digital hub designed to provide municipal employees with a centralized space for developing, learning about, and collaborating on AI initiatives. By offering resources, networking opportunities, and practical use cases, the portal aims to simplify and strengthen AI efforts across municipalities.

The portal is designed to help municipal employees explore, learn about, and share experiences related to AI. It provides inspiring examples of use cases, educational materials, resources, and opportunities to engage with others working with AI in the municipal sector.

This launch follows a mapping of AI initiatives in Swedish municipalities, which revealed that 9 out of 10 municipalities are engaged with AI in some capacity. However, many projects are small, fragmented, and lack coordination. Furthermore, there is a significant gap between large and small municipalities, with larger ones hosting far more AI initiatives.

Kommunportalen on My AI aims to address these challenges by:

  • Highlighting AI initiatives: Sharing use cases from across the country allows municipalities to learn from one another and identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Centralizing learning resources and guides: The portal offers access to courses, modules, and practical tools, such as the AI Compass, to help users get started.
  • Enabling collaboration: Features such as commenting on and discussing use cases, adding contact persons and collaborators, and networking with peers support active collaboration.

Kommunportalen represents an important step toward strengthening the municipal sector’s ability to work strategically with AI.

The AI Council, made up of representatives from 12 municipalities, identified the need for a central platform like Kommunportalen. The portal aims to help municipalities share experiences and develop AI solutions that enhance operations and provide value for residents and employees alike.

“We see the portal as an essential tool for easily finding AI use cases within municipalities, enabling knowledge sharing and inspiration. Looking ahead, we hope the portal fosters collective learning, collaboration, and opportunities to find partners,” says Kia Lagerqvist, Digitalization Manager at Kristinehamn Municipality and a member of the AI Council.

Municipal employees across Sweden are encouraged to contribute to the portal by sharing their own use cases, exploring the available learning resources, and drawing inspiration from others!
