Update from AI Sweden's Legal Expert Group

Monday, January 17, 2022

Curious to learn more about what AI Sweden’s Legal Expert Group has been up to, and what they are planning on next? We talked to Josefine Rembsgård and Ebba Josefson Lindqvist, who are running the network, to hear what they have to share.

“We had many great meetings in 2021 with AI Sweden's network Legal Expert Group, with interesting and important questions and discussions on the agenda. We discussed everything from the practical use of applied AI, the concept of Federated Learning, questions regarding anonymization and pseudonymization, the new proposal for regulating AI, to questions concerning intellectual property rights, and standardized agreements for sharing data”, says Josefine Rembsgård.

AI Sweden and the Legal Expert Group also initiated a collaboration with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY). The focus during the autumn was to identify recurring legal questions and challenges regarding data protection and AI. AI Sweden has also connected IMY with several partner organizations as part of this process.

“Looking ahead, the meetings during the spring will include some concrete examples of using AI in a legal context, such as using natural language processing (NLP) as a tool in legal work. The network will also get the chance to take part in presentations from researchers within the field of AI and law. The collaboration with IMY will continue, which we are very excited about, and some results from the first phase will be shared,” says Ebba Josefson Lindqvist.
